Virat Kohli was as humble as ever during the post-match presentation ceremony even after he was asked about the new record that he achieved in the sport, becoming India's most successful captain in Test cricket.
Kohli on Monday surpassed former India skipper MS Dhoni's record with his 28th Test win as captain. Dhoni had 27 wins from 60 Tests as India captain, Kohli now has 28 from just 48 games which puts him third on the list of skippers with most wins after 48 games behind Steve Waugh (36) and Ricky Ponting (33).
Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, who was conducting the post-match presentation, reminded Kohli of his record but the 30-year-old chose to credit the team's performance instead and refused to take any credits for India's success under him.
"Being the most successful Test captain? It's aby-product of the team we have. Our bowlers are amazing. Shami was great, Ishant bowling his heart out, Jadeja bowling a long spell. Captaincy is just a'C' in front of your name. It's a collective effort," Kohli said after the match.
Kohli also hailed India's all-rounder team effort as they outclassed the Win dies by 257 runs in the second Test to sweep the series 2-0 and consolidate their position at the top of the ICC World Test Championship points table.
"Pretty comprehensive again. Played really good cricket over four days. Getting result in the manner that you want is crucial. Were insome tricky situations. Took a lot of character from the boys collectively.
"For us, it's just the start of the Championship.Whatever's happened in the past is irrelevant. Look forward to keep continuing playing good cricket," Kohli said.
Talking about individual performances, Kohli wasparticularly impressed with young Hanuma Vihari's batting effort in the series.Vihari was adjudged Player of the Match for his maiden Test hundred in thefirst innings which saw him score 111 runs. He also finished as the highestrun-scorer in the series with 289 runs from 2 matches at an average of 96.33which included 1 century and two fifties.
"Hanuma was the standout batsman in this game.Contributions all around. Was a game full of grit and determination. Accordingto the surface it was a top class innings (Vihari). He's someone who is sure ofhis game and it shows. Dressing room feels calm when he's batting.
"That's a quality he possesses naturally. He's willingto improve. Accepts and corrects his mistakes. Plays with a lot of heart.Always up to do anything for the team. It's a very young career so far but he'sshown why he's been backed and selected in this team," Kohli said.
